JBX & where should i live?

so, i go to one my friends blogs and he has this survey... find out what american citie is best for you... turns out, i'm on the wrong falootin side of the country!! i have always known that i was not too impressed with the west coast, but this survey just confirmed it. i hate LA,... the people are fake, the weather is too sunny, no snow, HOT, smoggy, i could go on... but i won't. anyway... so now i'm thinking... chicago huh?? i've never lived there... could be fun, i LOVED NYC, so if chicago got 65% over NYC's 60% then maybe i should check it out. and i was surprized to see san diego on there but NOT DC... i've lived in DC before and i would move back in a heartbeat... but when ever i went to san diego to go to sea world (i had a season pass last year, so we went often) i always thought "nice place to visit... would never want to live here) and one of the MAIN reasons was this... JBX Grill!

from a press release:

2004: Jack in the Box Inc. began testing new fast-casual restaurant concept called JBX Grillâ„¢.

san diego is i guess the epicentre for jack in the box fast food restaurants, which if you know me, you know is my fave fast food... but with corporate headquarter cities come more "innovated locations". you all know what a jack in the box looks like... the little red sign... well san diego had this jack in the box i had never seen before,... JBX Grill! it is a high-end one with better food, table service, and they even serve alcohol! they had large lounge chairs and couches with wooden coffee tables that also had high speed internet access instead of plastic tables and chairs. i was with my roomie laura and since she loves jack in the box too we both almost had orgasms when we saw this new, updated, completely cool looking jack in the box. it was very industrial looking on the outside, almost looking like an oil refinery! :) if you've ever been to six flags, then you'll understand when i say that it looked like it belonged in gotham city.

now, when fast food chains go "up market", the results are usually pretty good, ie... wendy's owning baja fresh and mcdonald's owning chipotle grill, BUT i was thoroughly disapointed with this JBX and i'll tell you why. no curly fries. NO CURLY FRIES!!!! only two major fast food chains have the curly fries... jack in the box and arby's. carl's jr. has the criss cut fries but it isn't the same. if you start a JBX grill which has essentially the same menu as a jack in the box and you leave off curly fries, you are gonna alienate a LOT of people. well, after being completely impressed with this new JBX Grill up to the point of ordering, laura and i walked out. we didn't complete our order... we didn't even settle for regular fries... it was a really nice, cool looking, interior impressing LET DOWN! don't bother... and since it's in san diego... i'm boycotting san diego! :) so, no sea world pass for me this year :) it's sad, but i have to stay true to my convictions! :) and apparantly, i'm not the only one who wasn't too impressed with this new JBX Grill.

here is a very recent news article on the future of JBX Grill... it also has a small pic so you can get an idea of what the JBX's look like. i know that my above discription was completely adequate but i figured i'd back it up with this pic anyway :) the article is kinda disconcerting actually... i hope that they don't get my local neighbourhood J inthe B, cuz that'll be sad. can you believe that this entire rant was inspired by seeing a list of 5 cities that i should live in! wow... sometimes i impress myself with how completely lame i am :)

frogs and flesh eating mothers

netflix is great... i get movies and TV shows delivered to my door and never have to leave the comfort of my own house. on top of this, i also get to see and experience films that i never would have seen otherwise... case in point... check out these two winners:

FROG-G-G!
Flesh Eating Mothers

it's kinda funny to go to kinko's with your roommate (with whom you watched these two movies) and have her get online to rate films and ask out loud, "what did we see? flesh eating mothers??" not for the fact that it seems like we witnessed some odd freak show walking down the street, but for the faces on the other people in kinko's who are trying to pretend like they didn't just hear that.

Frog-g-g! - $11.88 on DVD
flesh eating mothers - $11.88 on DVD
weirding out people you don't know - priceless!

25 April 2005

hic a doo la...

i just watched frankie avalon and annette funnicelo in "beach blanket bingo". what a cheezy, fun, and AWESOME movie! wow! it just kinda made me want to live in the 1960's and HIC A DOO LA!!

MAY 1st...family guy is back!!! can't wait... check it out!

mom knows...

so i finally told my mom about my blog. i don't know why i didn't tell her about it before though. there is nothing really secret in here and she already knows 95% of everything in my life anyway, so she probably won't learn too much else from this little diary of mine, but she did make one comment that made me feel bad. after reading this post of mine, she called me up and asked me if that was how i truly felt. after i said yes, she said that it made her feel really bad, because she had no idea that deep down inside me, i felt so alone. one of the worst feelings in the WORLD is knowing that you've hurt your mom in some way... no one WANTS their mom to worry about them, especially when their mothers and fathers have their own worries to deal with, which is why we always tell our parents that we are doing better than we are. AND, i think deep down moms know that we are fibbing to them... they ARE mothers after all, but i also think that they let us tell them those fibs, because they know that we want them to think that we are doing fine, and they don't say anything about it, because deep down they want to believe it too.

in retrospect, maybe i shouldn't have told mom about my blog. but i'm glad i did... i want her to know me... REALLY know me... i need at least one of my parents to KNOW their son before they die, and it certainly isn't going to be my dad. it's really sad, but true. i'm terrified to tell my dad about me... i'm afraid to really let him into my life, because i'm scared that if i did, he would disown me... and that would kill me.

another disney rant...

disney movies coming soon to DVD

out of all the movies coming soon and recently released to DVD throughout 2005 (and if you check out the link, you'll see that there are a lot!) check out all the ANIMATED SEQUELS!:

pooh's heffalump movie
tarzan II
lilo and stitch 2: stitch has a glitch
pooh's heffalump halloween
kronk's new groove
bambi and the great prince of the forest
brother bear II
the tinkerbell movie
cinderella III
mulan II

that is LUDICRIOUS! first off, why not focus all your talented animators on ORIGINAL projects and give them the chance to express themselves! you may have the next john lasseter, hayao miyazaki or don bluth sitting in your studios right now but you'll never know if you have him painting fucking pictures of cinderella for the 3rd go around. and while we are on the subject, did the debaucle known as cinderella II: dreams come true really do well enough to warrant ANOTHER sequel?? PLEASE... that was the worst piece of crap to come out of the studio to date, and that is saying alot!

AND, this is on top of all the live action sequels and remakes that are coming soon:

halloweentown III
herbie: fully loaded
the shaggy dog
pirates of the caribbean 2: dead man's chest
the santa clause 3
swiss family robinson
mighty ducks 4
kiki's delivery service

now i'll admit, if you can make a good sequel, then by all means go right ahead... Toy Story 2 was amazing, and i'm sure we're all excited for pirates 2 and (maybe it's only me) santa clause 3: (tim allen returns as scott calvin a.k.a. santa claus for a follow-up to the two popular holiday comedies. this time, he struggles to keep his family happy while battling jack frost, who is plotting to take over christmas.) but is anyone excited for another mighty ducks or another holloweentown movie (in case you don't know them, they aired on the disney channel)??

disney is also getting into a habit of remaking it's classic films and turning it's animated films into live action ones: 101 dalmations, the jungle book, the parent trap, freaky friday and now swiss family robinson, the shaggy dog (starring disney king tim allen) and kiki's delivery service. (as a side note, did you know that the freaky friday remake with disney queen lindsay lohan was actually the 2nd remake of that film?? the first one was in 1995 and starred shelley long and gaby hoffmann)

i dunno if disney has lost it's creativity or if they are just lazy and out to make a buck, but in either case it's really sad to me. disney was THE company to me when i was younger, they were everything i wanted to be and that's why i even worked for them when i was in NY. just go to the parks and you'll see the magic that i saw and still do see in them, if they can just get out of this shitty slump that they are in right now. speaking of the parks, another attraction is heading to a cineplex near you, following the HUGE success of the country bears, haunted mansion and pirates,... ok, just pirates, the newest attraction to make the cross-over is: Jungle Cruise! if you've ever ridden the ride, you'll know that they joke around ALOT so i'm sure it'll be a comedy.

i will never give up on my disney, but i WILL rant and rave when they piss me off. after all, i own stock, i gotta protect my investment! :)

dangermouse on DVD!!!!

it's about time!... following in the footsteps of my little pony and jem and the recently announced He-Man, now let's get: count duckula, strawberry shortcake, rainbow brite, the popples, the smurfs, pound puppies, the wuzzles, talespin, ducktales, gummi bears, superted, the wombles, thundercats, silverhawks, bravestarr, muppet babies, mr. men, captain planet, teddy ruxpin, alvin and the chipmunks, dungeons & dragons, inspector gadget, freakazoid, the tick, denver the last dinosaur, dennis the menace, TMNT, tiny toon adventures and the snorks... to start :)

boom goes the dynamite!!

i feel so bad for this guy! read the news article by clicking the title link above... i hope no one ever gets documented footage of me like that! ugh! there goes MY career! :)

12 April 2005

quick update...

remember when i posted this article? well according to my friend ffej, On The Record is not doing so hot and will be closing sooner than expected thereby pretty much answering the question of whether it would be going to broadway or not.

i'm anakin skywalker...

Which Fantasy/SciFi Character Are You?

war of the worlds

why am i not excited about this movie at ALL? i really do NOT like tom cruise, but i LOVE steven spielberg, i LOVE dakota fanning, i LOVE sci-fi, i LOVE david koepp and i LOVE h.g.wells and his other literary masterpieces including: "the time machine", "the invisible man" AND "the island of dr. moreau". so why do i have NO love for this flick??? could it be that they are desecrating the entire point of why the original book was written in the first place! if anyone out there has seen the trailer for it (click the title link) and has any other insight into this, feel free to share!

as a side note, if you are interested in reading any of those three novels that i mentioned above, or the original version of the war of the worlds just click on the links... i connected them to their entire online novels... they are all great.

klingons and asexual chemistry teachers

so i am walking to my car from the post office (returning a couple netflix dvd's) and this woman walks past me. i think to myself "damn she looks familiar" and i think she is a teacher of mine, but then i figure it out... she is Bobby Glass!! does anyone remember the TV show Popular?

After i realized who she was i ran to catch up with her before she got into the post office (which in retrospect was kinda lame... wow everyone, look at me, i CHASE down celebrities!!) and i told her that i was a big fan. she was really nice and spoke to me for a few minutes about acting and gave me some encouragement (keep working at it) and i told her to keep making great acting choices and she said "as long as they keep letting me!"

so,... here is my plea to the TV-powers-that-be:

1) keep letting Diane Delano work! she is a very nice lady who is also an amazing actor! :)

2) if you want, cast me in something too!

on a side note, i got cast as a klingon in Star Trek: Hidden Frontier so that is one of my life long dreams come true... i'm officially part of the star trek family!! :) i wanna give a shout out to my friends Wayne and Bobby who are already on the show and who i hope i get to work with at some point :)

i'm really excited... hopefully if i get some good pictures, i'll post them on here so you can all see me as a klingon!! :)

08 April 2005

i love my friends...

my roommate and friend is moving out soon and it got me to thinking, "do i know my firends?" i mean of course i know them, but do i REALLY know them? do i know what makes them tick, what they love, what they hate, what they desire and what makes them cry?? i only wonder this because i was thinking of getting laura a little something as a going away present and my new roomie josh a little housewarming present... i know what to get both of them. which only prooves i know what material possesions they would appriciate, but does that constitute "knowing" them??

i am a very emotionless person when it comes to opening my heart to people. i guess i just don't want to get hurt (so cliche) but i really don't. all relationships (be they love related or friendships) always end up hurting someone and i think that is why i over compensate with my friends by buying them lots of stuff for christmas and birthdays which i know they will love. to try and show them that i love them through material goods... the old "i wouldn't buy this for you if i didn't love you!" trick! :)

is that bad? i dunno... but i figured i'd do a shout-out to all my friends right now in honour of them sticking it through with me, despite my cold heartless soul :)

Stevie KA Laura Robert Rabiah Milly Adam Matt Hamish The Colorado Boys Sue Eric C. Ffej Hunky J Dog Wayne Toogie Billy Omar Josh

Reefer Madness: The Musical

who else out there cannot wait?? :)

Disney Theatrical Upcoming Productions

As those of you who know me know, I used to work for Walt Disney Theatrical Productions in NYC, and the other day I had the pleasure of talking to some of my old friends who still work for the company and they gave me a little heads up as to some of the new shows that are coming out soon, most of which I already knew about, but now have a few added details, so I thought i'd share. (ps, I think that is the longest sentence I've ever typed in here!)

First... a little history:

Walt Disney Theatricals' first production, "Disney's Beauty and the Beast," has been running on Broadway for almost ten years. Successful, record-breaking productions have sprung up in London, Stuttgart, Osaka, Melbourne, Sao Paolo, Mexico City and Seoul, to mention a few.

Since then, Disney has actually produced four other musicals: "The Lion King," which has been even more successful than "Beauty and the Beast," Elton John and Tim Rice's "Aida," "On The Record" which is nothing more than a review of over 50 songs from various Disney Films throughout the years and "Der Glockner von Notre Dame" the German stage version of Disney's "Hunchback" film.

On The Record
On The Record is currently touring America and plans to bring it to the Great White Way are currently being discussed based on how well this tour does for the company.

Mary Poppins
"Mary Poppins" premiered in London on the 40th anniversary of the film's release, December 15, 2004, at the Prince Edward Theatre. The new musical (which has a very snazzy logo) is being penned by Julian Fellowes (Academy Award-winner for "Gosford Park") with new songs being added to the classic Sherman score by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe. Cameron Mackintosh is co-producing the megamusical with Disney, a deal that took years to finally fall into place. Disney has been planning to bring this to the stage since WDT was formed. The show is likely to make an American premiere date in late 2005/early 2006. Expect big, big things out of this show. To be directed by Sir Richard Eyre (Stage Beauty, Iris) and featuring choreography from Matthew Bourne (Swan Lake).

Tarzan
Although this show is already a musical spectacular at Walt Disney World it has no new songs or scenes added to it. At the moment it is set to be the next big musical to open in the United States for Disney (2005). Phil Collins has mentioned several times in press interviews for "Brother Bear" that he has written many new songs to accompany his original film score in the Broadway presentation of "Tarzan." David Henry Hwang (M.Butterfly, Aida) is writing the script for the new show, which is aiming for a Cirque du Soleil-esque environmental presentation. Aida's set designer Bob Crowley (Have you seen "Aida"? Do yourself a favor next time you're in NYC...one of the show's greatest assets are the sets. Just beautiful) is directing and designing the show. A recent reading had "Hairspray" hottie Matthew Morrison in the lead. I wonder who's designing the costumes? It couldn't be that hard...how long does it take to sketch a loincloth?

The Little Mermaid
What was once set to open in less than a year has been pushed back indefinitely. Kerry Butler, who recently starred as ditzy Audrey in the Menken-Ashman tuner "Little Shop of Horrors" on Broadway, will star as Ariel if this show ever reaches the surface. Original director Matthew Bourne dropped the show less than a year ago, and it has since been moved to the back burner. Glenn Slater (Alan Menken's new lyricist of choice) and Menken have written several new songs, and the script had a workshop reading early this year. Butler was accompanied by "Side Show" star Emily Skinner as Ursula and "Thoroughly Modern Millie" leading man Gavin Creel as Prince Eric.

Hoopz
Pulitzer Prize winner Suzan Lori Parks has been writing this musical for a while now. Suzan's latest work to be seen on the New York stage had a title so offensive the New York Times refused to print it. It was a retelling of The Scarlet Letter, and was entitled "F***ing A." "Hoopz" will tell the story of the Harlem Globetrotters, if it ever happens. Jeanine Tesori, composer of "Thoroughly Modern Mille," has been tapped to write the score. This one will open in a regional theatre setting initially, and eventually move to New York. This show is also not a priority at WDT right now.

Pinocchio
Remember Disney's Geppetto? A musical on ABC starring Drew Carey? At the time of the movie's premiere, Julie Taymor (Titus, Frida) started blabbing about directing and designing a stage version of "Pinocchio" for Disney, following on the heels of her "Lion King" success. Taymor mentioned blending Disney's story with some of the darker elements found in Collodi's original tale, and possibly even using some songs and plot points from "Geppetto." Chances are that last idea was canned. At any rate, this show is far, far off, but still a very likely possibility.

Other ideas that are being thrown around include "Nightmare Before Christmas", "Newsies", "Hercules" (which already played in stage form at the inauguration of the New Amsterdam Theatre, Lion King's current home on Broadway) and a "Fantasia"-based ballet, all very much blue sky concepts.

The biggest problem facing WDT right now is market saturation. Many feel that "Beauty and the Beast" should run for another five to ten years at least, which would put it among the longest lasting musicals of all time. "Aida" just closed but "The Lion King" certainly isn't closing anytime soon, as it gets ready to celebrate its eighth sold out year on Broadway.

There are only so many theatres on Broadway. Disney essentially built a new theatre out of an old one for "Lion King," and therefore added a stage to the rosters (the New Amsterdam). It will be essential for them to do the same thing if they choose to bring in new productions. It's hard enough right now for any new show to open on Broadway, as the theatres are snapped up faster than you can say "You wanna turn what animated movie into a major Broadway musical?"

Which brings us to another entertainment conglomerate. Adding to the problem is newcomer DreamWorks. You see, Jeffrey Katzenberg likes to copy Unca Mikey. A lot. It's actually kind of interesting to watch the patterns of decisions he has made since he left Disney for the then-fledgling movie studio. His leadership seems to be very reactionary, with no room for innovation or leading the way. Which is just fine. I wouldn't wish "Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas" on my worst enemies.

But now, Katzenberg thinks it's a good idea to start turning DreamWorks films into stage musicals (it worked for Eisner, right?). Two are known to be in active development right now: "Catch Me If You Can" with a score from "Hairspray" composers Marc Shaiman and Scott Whitman, and, get this... wait for it... "Shrek! The Musical"

Not kidding, kids.

In what could be described as the worst idea for a musical since 1988's "Carrie" (yes, Stephen King's "Carrie"), Katzenberg is gung-ho to emulate the success of Disney's animated-films-turned-Broadway-musicals. And he has even managed to get top-flight director Sam Mendes (whose current Broadway work includes "Cabaret" and "Gypsy" with Bernadette Peters) to helm the new musical based on the animated blockbuster.

You know, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe "Shrek!" will be wonderful.

Maybe Smashmouth could write the songs. Maybe Rosie O'Donnell could play Shrek. I'm sorry... that was really cruel. But you giggled. Admit it. You tittered. Oh come on. Cathy Rigby plays Peter Pan all the time!

DISNEY SEARCH ENGINE!!!

ok folks, in case you haven't guessed, i like disney a little bit :)

and i am pleased to announce that i am now THE place to come visit if you need to find ANYTHING that has ANYTHING to do with disney!!

if you scroll down my sidebar, you'll see a newly added disney search engine underneath the "powered by blogger" button that will help you find anything you need to find in the disney universe!

have fun searching and keep coming back to my blog cuz it's just getting cooler and cooler the longer i have it!! :)

family guy music

i can't wait for season 4!!

The Muppet Show on DVD!!!

FINALLY!!

TAX TIME :(

well, i'm not really worried about oweing (is that how you spell it?) money, i'm just worried about getting them done in time. i had three W-2's to work with this year and i seem to have "missplaced" one of them, so now i have to go to my job and request a copy to be sent to me, but since we have to have this done by april 15th, i am also going to have to file an extension, not only for my federal taxes, but also for my state taxes! UGH! so much work for a measly hundred bucks... at least i'm not in my sister's position, she is a dancer and just got finished doing a national tour of "Saturday Night Fever"... she has to file state taxes for 15 different states since she was technically employed and made money in those states while she was on the tour! not to mention her regular federal taxes! :) it makes me a little happier to know what she has to go through, it shouldn't, but it does! :) i love you stevie...

Angela McCluskey

does anyone remember this american express commercial? (to view the commercial, click on the SECOND thumbnail icon)

well the wonderfully sexie, raspy, jazzy vocals are done by a certain miss angela mccluskey and i'm hoping that if her debut album has even a glimmer of the awesomeness that she shows in 30 seconds of an amex ad, then she will be around for a while!

PS... i do know that her album has been out for almost a year, but i just found out who sang the amex song, so i'm a little behind! :)

when will it end???

did anyone do anything fun for april fools yesterday??

i called my sister in houston and told her that i flew into dallas/ft. worth airport from LA for our mom and dad's anniversary which is on april 2nd and that i needed her to drive up to DFW from houston to come pick me up and take me to our mom's house so we could surprize her!! :) it's about a 4 hour drive!! she freaked out... it was great :)

so today is mom and dad's anniversary and they have been married 28 years!! i feel kinda bad for my mom because my dad is on buisness in ohio and couldn't get off so they won't be able to be together for their special day :( a funny side note: my dad actually wanted to get married on april 1st but my mom refused for obvious reasons... smart woman, i'd never have been born :) anyway, that's why it's on the 2nd.

on a sad note, 2 people of note died today i found out via my friend Adam that mitch hedburg just passed away. he was a comic genius... i have a link on your right to a site full of quotes from him. they are funny... here's one to get you started:

"I opened up a container of yogurt, and under the lid it said "Please Try Again" because they were having a contest I was unaware of. But I thought I might have opened the yogurt wrong, or maybe Yoplait was trying to inspire me. 'C'mon, Mitchell, don't give up. Please try again. A message of inspiration from your friends at Yoplait. Fruit on the bottom, hope on top."

the second person wasn't known for his comedy skills as much as he was known for his big ass italian house and inspirational leadership skills. Pope John Paul II just passed away, literally about 15 mins ago. i may not believe in catholicism as much as i used to as a child, but you gotta have respect for that man.

i hope they both meet and become friends in heaven, i'd love to go to THAT party! :)
