the mystery behind my blog name revealed!

so alot of people that i don't even know have been asking me if i was in this movie because of the name of my blog.

well, as good as that film looks, i have to say that,... YES!, i was in that film!! autograph signings will be held this friday at best buy in burbank from 2-5pm and all you have to do to get one is to purchase a $20 gift card from the registers and bring it to me in the back of the store... i'll be sitting on one of the couches back there in the "living room" area of the store and then i'll sign whatever you want! :P

no, in all seriousness... i was not in that film (but i have added it to my netflix list out of morbid curiosity)... no, the name of my blog comes from the lyrics to the song "defying gravity" from the musical "wicked".

in case you know nothing about it, "wicked" is a musical based on the book: Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by gregory maguire. the musical was written by Stephen Schwartz who most of you will probably know as the composer of: Godspell, Pippen, Disney's animated film Pocahontas and another Disney animated film: The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

i LOVED the book SO much! i have read it 8 times. i think it is one of the most ingenious, and imaginative retellings to come out of the literary world in years! it tells the story of Elphaba (the witch of the west) and her high school friend galinda (yes, gAlinda, not glinda, the witch of the north) and their lives starting from elphaba's birth and ending with her baptism by dorothy. it really examines the nature of evil and how events in a persons life can lead them to make desicions that leave them ostracized and hated by the rest of the world (or considered... wicked).

anyway... i don't want to rant too long on this, but if you can, read the book... i promise you'll find it worthwhile.

also, if you'd like to hear a clippet of the song that my namesake comes from click on this link and then click on "defying gravity". idina menzel (of RENT fame) has an amazing voice.

also... if you have a little extra time on your hands... check out this article that i found. it's an interesting read.
