Save Disney

so, i get this email in my box:

Joint Statement from The Walt Disney Co. and Roy E. Disney and Stanley P. Gold
BURBANK, Calif. (July 8, 2005) -- The Walt Disney Company, Roy E. Disney and Stanley P. Gold announced today that they have agreed to put aside the differences that have characterized their relationship over the past several years. Messrs. Disney and Gold have agreed not to run a rival slate of directors or submit shareholder resolutions for the next five years. Messrs. Disney and Gold have also agreed to dismiss all their pending lawsuits against the Company. In reestablishing ties with him and his family, the Company has named Roy E. Disney Director Emeritus and a consultant. The Company also reaffirmed its commitment to the rotation of committee members and chairpersons on its Board committees as currently required by the Company's Corporate Governance Guidelines. In putting aside their differences, the Company noted Mr. Disney's long time devotion to the Company and welcomed the reestablishment of a relationship with him and his family. Messrs. Disney and Gold expressed confidence in Mr. Iger's leadership, and as Mr. Eisner retires after 21 years with the Company, they acknowledged his contribution to the Company over the years.

i've been a supporter of savedisney.com for a while now... i have the bumper sticker and everything! :) but with this announcement it means that roy and disney are no longer fighting... does that mean that he is going to abandon the crusade to SAVE DISNEY! was the whole site just a forum for him to create a lot of noise so that he could get back in with the company or does he really believe that things need to change. just because he is back with the company doesn't mean that everything is better... there still is a lot of work to do. i am glad that he knows where the company went wrong though...

10 years of declining performance
failing strategy
lack of executive depth
decline in working conditions and cast morale
failure of ABC network
failure of GO.com
failure of Fox (now ABC) Family network
failure of Disney Stores
failure of California Adventure theme park
failure of extending the Pixar deal

(thanks bigby)

SO,... IS roy disney selling out or does he really think that he can help make a difference as "director emeritus"?? i guess we'll just have to hold our breath, cross our fingers and see.

watching:

Just on the Disney at random topic, are you looking forward to Spy High? To me, it looks like a return to classic Disney, along the lines of the old Kurt Russell movies.
